Close up photo opportunities to see the goshawk from our new, warm and comfortable photo hide. Goshawk is not rare sighting in Sweden, but it lives a secluded life in the woods and is normally very difficult to get close to.
Birds Safari Sweden have created a goshawk restaurant where goshawks have come to eat three winters running. Here we have built a convenient photo hide where two people can sit and study / film / photograph goshawks up close. The goshawk is not as shy as an eagle, but it is still important to stay still and quiet in the hide. The adult goshawk is a beautiful bird with finely freckled, silver-grey underside and a dark graphite grey back. It will be just 20 meters away and you must move the camera very carefully when you take your first pictures in the soft light of dawn. It is the closest you have ever been to a goshawk before.
Here in a glade in the Västmanland forest, goshawks are landing to eat. The site offers excellent photo opportunities from very close range. Several seats are placed 20 to 30 meters from the hide. We feed the hawks with game and bird to create the most natural photo opportunities.
The hide is well insulated and there is a quiet and odourless gas stove. Despite many degrees below zero outside, it will be + 15-20°C indoors. You sit comfortably on sheepskin lined chairs. The logbook offers authentic notes from previous visitors.
When? What? For whom?
Season: November to March. We will guide you to the hide. It is about 200 meters to go from the small forest road. You will arrive before dawn (about an hour before sunrise) and normally stay to dusk in order not to disturb the birds. For the devoted and patient bird of prey enthusiast or the photographer / filmmaker.
Goshawk Hut is located by a forest glade in Svartådalen, Västmanland. The forest surrounding the glade is not traversed by any wider roads than small winding dirt roads. The chance of human disturbance is very limited and there are plenty of birds and wildlife. Here are also mammals such as wild boar, elk, deer and lynx.
