Tågstallarna hostel in Rättvik, Dalarna, SVIF
The train depot hostel in Rättvik offers trains with sleeping cars as nice and unusual accommodation. You stay in your own cabin sleeping 1-2 people. There are also two larger compartments suitable for a family.
The compartments have a wash basin with running water, WC in the carriage as well as WC, kitchen and shower in the service building.
The cars are from Norway and were in traffic until 1999. In 1999, world renowned skiing champion Gunde Svan bought the cars for the roundhouse in Vansbro, to accommodate corporate clients. A few years later, TV personality Ingvar Oldsberg bought them as addistional accommodation at Baldersnäs Herrgård in Dalsland. And in 2009 we bought them to serve as a nice hostel at Siljansbadet.
Even the shop interior is furnished with elements from the famous TV show “On Track”. A TV studio mockup with engine driver’s compartment including features like the emergency stop handle and TV monitor.
A wide range of excursions are available in the area.
One example is Lake Siljan, the result of a meteorite strike that shaped Siljansringen in Rättvik 377 million years ago. More information available on www.meteorum.se
